TERRORISM, THE UNITED NATIONS AND
ONE-WORLD GOVERNMENT Americans looked evil in the eye on September 11, and now we must look to God's eternal truths for insight into this war against terrorism. God's eternal covenant with the Biblical Patriarch Abraham is the key to understanding this spiritual and physical war. The covenant is found in Genesis 12:1-3: "The Lord had said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse; and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'" Abram, now called Abraham, and his wife Sarah longed for a son to fulfill this prophecy. After many barren years, the couple impatiently took matters into their own hands and Abraham had a son, Ishmael, through their Egyptian maidservant Hagar (Genesis 16). Despite their disobedience, God blessed Ishmael and promised that his descendants would be too numerous to count (Genesis 16:10), and indeed today he is the father of 21 Arab nations. When Abraham and Sarah were beyond childbearing years, 100 and 90 years old respectively, God miraculously gave them their own son Isaac (Genesis 21:1-7). According to Genesis 17:21, the blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant are realized through Isaac. The Abrahamic Covenant is God's provision of a land, a seed and a promise. The land promised to Abraham is Israel, a tiny strip of land connecting the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. Jesus, born in Bethlehem, Israel, about 2000 years ago, fulfilled the prophecy of the seed in the lineage of Isaac whose son was Jacob, also called Israel. The promise that "all peoples on earth will be blessed by you" is especially significant to Gentiles who before Jesus' birth, death and resurrection were outsiders, but after Him were given access (grafted in) through faith in Jesus (as Christians) to eternal life. The disposition of Abraham's son, Ishmael, is foretold in Genesis 16:12: "He will be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." While the Arab temperament has always been difficult, the conflict with its stepbrother, Israel, was heightened after the Arab world adopted a new religion called Islam. Founded by the prophet Muhammad, who lived from 570-632 AD, followers of Islam called Moslems, insist that Ishmael, rather than Isaac, was the recipient of the Abrahamic Covenant's blessings. About 6 million Jews live in Israel today, surrounded by about 400 million Arabs. The land Moslems call Palestine is Israel, and it is situated on the west side of the Jordan River. Jordan, a land on the east side of the Jordan River, was given to those who call themselves Palestinians when Israel was re-established more than 50 years ago. Peace in Israel is elusive because the Moslems demand ownership of Israel too. According to the Abrahamic Covenant, nations are blessed or cursed by how they deal with Israel. My prayer is that America will continue to be blessed supporters of Israel since the Bible is very clear that God will respond forcefully against any nation that comes against Israel and Jerusalem (Psalm 83, Zechariah 12:3,9). Unfortunately, many naively look to the United Nations (UN), rather than God, as the key to peace in the Middle East. The UN policy of one nation, one vote dictates that Israel and the U.S. have only one vote each, while the Arab nations have 21. It follows then, that just as the Bible foretold, the end-times war will indeed be fought in Israel (Ezekiel 38 & 39) with the UN as the possible stage from which the leader of the one-world government and the leader of the one-world religion will first appear. There are three major UN treaties being used to bring the world into one-world government. The first is the Kyoto Protocol dealing with the global warming theory that would require 38 developed nations bound by the treaty, including the U.S., to pay the remaining 150 undeveloped nations carbon emissions payments and furthermore, to transfer technologies to them in this wealth redistribution scheme. Secondly, the UN wants taxing authority in order to free itself from the whims of governments to pay their dues. Next March, the UN is to meet in Monterrey, Mexico, to discuss the Tobin tax-a tax on international monetary transactions, a carbon tax for burning fossil fuels and other taxing schemes. The third onerous treaty is the International Criminal Court (ICC). John R. Bolton, U.S. Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security, claims that the hidden agenda of the ICC is to restrain U.S. military power. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who along with the UN itself was just awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, believes that the necessary ratification by 60 nations of the ICC will be in place by summer 2002. If the UN gains the authority to redistribute wealth globally, and if it can impose taxes, and if the UN's ICC is created that robs our U.S. Constitutional freedoms and restrains our military, then the UN would indeed be a one-world government. According to Biblical prophecy, the one-world government will work in tandem with a one-world religion (Daniel 7:15-28, II Thessalonians 2:1-11). The UN's Earth Charter (www.earthcharter.org) "will be presented as a statement of basic moral, spiritual and ethical principles to guide the behavior of people and nations toward one another and the Earth" during a meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, in September 2002, according to UN "reformer" Maurice Strong. The UN will have in place the infrastructure for a one-world government and a one-world religion next September. America does not have the votes within the UN to prevent it. God has given us hope nonetheless in II Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land." May God grant healing to America. WHAT YOU CAN DO: If you would like a more detailed explanation of this scenario, Cathie Adams is available to speak to your group. BACKING WESTERN CIVILIZATION Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's comment that Western civilization is superior to Islamic culture took guts to say. The Europeans reacted to Berlusconi with outrage and horror is symptomatic of the malaise afflicting the West. "We should be conscious of the superiority of our civilization, which consists of a value system that has given people widespread prosperity…and guarantees respect for human rights and religion," Berlusconi told a group of journalists. "The respect certainly does not exist in Islamic countries." "I can hardly believe Mr. Berlusconi made such remarks," wailed Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, who assured us that the European Union "is based on values such as multiculturalism and the meeting of different civilizations." For Europe's elite, it is a matter of faith that all cultures are created equal. Thus, a civilization that gave the world democracy, civil liberties and the industrial revolution and computer age is judged no better than a culture whose democracy is unknown, rights nonexistent, tribal bloodshed the norm and a few live in palaces while most inhabit hovels. Democracy is as alien to the Islamic world as Jimmy Dean's pork sausage. There are one-party regimes (Syria, Libya, Iraq, the Sudan. Afghanistan), oligarchies with parliamentary facades (Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, the Palestinian Authority), military dictatorships (Pakistan) and traditional Islamic regimes (Saudi Arabia, Iran and the Gulf states). In the West, the opposition is represented. In the East, it's interred. In 1970, Jordan's King Hussein crushed PLO forces, killing 20,000 in a week. In 1982, the late Hafez Assad of Syria liquidated the entire city of Hama, center of a Sunni revolt. In 1998, the Taliban systematically slaughtered thousands of ethnic Hasara. An estimated 100,000 have died in Algeria's decade-old civil war. The Taliban judge presiding over the trial of Western aid workers accused of Christian proselytizing says they'll get a fair trial. Would that be before or after he hangs them? In Pakistan, a professor is on death row for contradicting orthodox Moslem teaching. In Egypt, Saad Eddin Ibrahim was sentenced to seven years hard labor for "defaming" the nation by documenting the persecution of Coptic Christians. A friend of mind, a Pakistani lawyer, was asked to lecture to an American audience on religious tolerance in the Islamic world. "I told them it does not exist," he laughingly informed me. Diversity and tolerance aren't the only things in short supply in this part of the world, which has little of value except oil-a resource discovered and developed by Westerners. Egypt doesn't give America $2 billion annually in foreign aid. Italians didn't enter North Africa illegally seeking a better life. One reason fundamentalists loathe Western capitalism is the vivid contrast it provides to their backwardness. Islam made significant contributions to science and mathematics-roughly a millennium ago. More recently, it has enriched humanity with such concepts as jihad, fatwa, clitorectomies, amputating limbs as punishment for various offenses and suicide bombings. The 19 men accused of perpetrating the horrors of Sept. 11 all had names like Ahmed and Muhammad. Would you believe there wasn't a Shawn or Seymour among them? If the Arab League is offended by this assessment-well, I don't see any paeans to our culture penned by the mullahs or imams. They're too busy denouncing Western decadence, economics and political systems. Only the West is afflicted with self-doubt. Only we have succumbed to the doctrine of cultural equivalence. When America went to war with Nazism and Japanese militarism, it was with unshakeable conviction that Judeo-Christian culture was superior to these throwbacks to the Dark Ages. Those who would defend civilization must first acknowledge that it is preferable to the alternative.
ISLAM ISN'T A PEACEFUL RELIGION One sees many white, Anglo-Saxon, mostly Protestant members of Congress and others on television today vouching for the "peaceful" nature and intent of Islam. Oprah Winfrey has done a show on "modern Muslim women"-none of whom would be allowed to dress in contemporary clothing, be educated, or even appear on television if they lived in radical Muslim states. I asked Right Reverend Bullen Dolli, an Episcopal Bishop in Sudan, what he believes about the nature and intent of contemporary Islam. "It is a militant religion," he tells me. He was in Washington at the invitation of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, attempting to warn Congress and anyone else who would listen of the dangers to his country and the United States posed by Islam, especially in its militant form. In Sudan, says Bishop Dolli, the coercive instruments of the state use brutal force to insure that no other religion but Islam is practiced. The congregation of All Saints Cathedral in Khartoum, a peaceful assembly of Christians, was recently disbanded and many members were arrested, tried in kangaroo courts and either imprisoned or punished by caning. Bishop Dolli says former Sudanese President Sadiq el-Mahdi has prophesied that by 2010, the world will be dominated by Islam. His prophecy is written in Sudanese school textbooks. In Sudan, says Bishop Dolli, many Christian church buildings have been either bulldozed or bombed from the air. Non-Muslims suffer persecution in employment, and all women, either Muslim or not, are forced to wear the black chador and veil. The government army has been renamed "Jundy Allah" (the Army of Allah) and they fight jihad (holy war) against those in Southern Sudan and non-Moslems. Slavery continues to be practiced by the murahaleen, members of government-backed militias who regularly conduct raids against Christians in Southern Sudan. The murahaleen have killed thousands, enslaved children and young women, stolen cattle, plundered and burned food stores and crops and are reported by various human rights organizations to have raped both men and women. Over two million Sudanese civilians are estimated to have died since 1983 as a result of continuing warfare. Many millions more have been forced to flee their homes. Bishop Dolli says radical Islam's goal is to dominate the entire African continent with its militant, oppressive, dangerous and increasingly popular brand of religion. So-called "Islamic moderates," in the bishop's view, are among the first targeted for extermination by the extremists, even before they go after Jews and Christians. If Sudan is too far away to worry about, is Potomac, MD close enough? The Washington Post's Marc Fisher recently visited a Muslim school in that D.C. suburb. What he found ought to send chills up every American spine. An eighth grader told Fisher: "If I had to choose sides, I'd stay with being Muslim. Being an American means nothing to me." The school principal said: "Allegiance to national authority is one thing, but the one who gives us life is more entitled to that authority. This is the story of religion through all time. When national laws and values go counter to what the Creator (Allah) believes, we are 100% against it." When Christians, Jews and those of most other faiths disagree with the American government, they have worked within the system to change it. It is different with militant Islam, which seeks to dominate the nation in which it grows, and when in control, diminishes the rights of all who disagree. Don't think so? Is there a country controlled by Islamic militants that guarantees equal rights for all? Why are we allowing Muslim schools in this country to promote ideas that are seditious? Bishop Dolli knows better. Why don't the rest of us? Especially after September 11?
CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS SHOULD
TRUMP TERRORISM REGULATIONS After the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the Left moved quickly to use it as an excuse to enact draconian federal gun control. Fortunately, saner heads prevailed by showing that no new gun control laws would have the slightest deterrent to that tragedy. In the wake of the World Trade Center disaster, we certainly need defensive measures to prevent another occurrence and to ensure the safety of air travel, as well as the offensive measures already initiated by President Bush. But confiscating pocket knives and sewing scissors from little old ladies will do nothing to fill the now-empty planes with confident passengers. The threat of terrorism comes from an identifiable group of alien males, between the ages of 20 and 35, whom our government has willfully or negligently allowed to live and travel in the United States. Yet, in the thousands of print articles and television and radio segments that have recorded the events of 9/11 and their aftermath, one has to search with a microscope to find any mention of the government's culpability in regard to immigration and visa practices. Since the hijackers are all dead, there is no national security reason that can justify withholding information about them from the American public. We want the answers to so many questions. Who were the immigration officials who let them into our country and under what pretenses? What did the hijackers say on their visa applications and airport arrival cards, and who okayed those documents as legally filled out and signed? What was the hijackers' previous employment and country of emigration? Who were their U.S. guarantors of employment after arrival into the U.S.? Who is responsible for failing to keep track of them in this country and failing to expel them when their visas expired? Most, if not all, of the hijackers were illegally in this country because their visas had expired. It is time that the American people wake up now to how the Left has practically deified such concepts as "multiculturalism," "tolerance," "diversity," "political correctness," and "melting pot," while demonizing such concepts as "profiling" and "conspiracy." All cultures are not equally deserving of respect. We should be highly restrictive about who we allow into our country. It was an identifiable group that perpetrated the 9/11 atrocity. Aliens are not entitled to the same rights as citizens, and it certainly had to be a criminal conspiracy to hijack four planes simultaneously. We cannot tolerate new security measures that treat citizens and aliens alike, such as a national I.D. card. Any new legislation must make that clear distinction because American citizens are not willing to live in a police state. President Bush's announcement of a new Cabinet-level Office of Homeland Security, with as yet undefined duties, is neither new nor reassuring. In 1999, President Clinton's Deputy Secretary of Defense John Harme floated the idea of creating a Homelands Defense Command under which a unit of U.S. troops, commanded by a four-star general, would take charge in case of a terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Clinton issued a Presidential Decision Directive to authorize military intervention against terrorism on our own soil. Secretary of Defense William Cohen said in an Army Times interview that "Terrorism is escalating to the point that Americans soon may have to choose between civil liberties and more intrusive means of protection." The Posse Comitas Act of 1878 is supposed to protect us against a President using the Army to enforce the law against civilians. Later laws, however, have carved out a number of exceptions that authorize the President, after proclaiming a state of emergency, to send active duty soldiers to respond to a crisis under the direction of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Our limited experience with law enforcement by the U.S. military is not reassuring. When the U.S. Army tanks stormed the Branch Davidian compound in Waco in 1993, scores of innocent people were killed. As Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA) states, "We must not allow our constitutional freedoms to become victims of these violent attacks. …We should first examine why the attacks occurred."
TIME TO RETHINK IMMIGRATION Is it time to rethink American immigration policy in the face of a clear and present danger from foreign-born terrorists? Nearly eight out of 10 of those polled by the Center for Immigration Studies after the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center and pentagon think so, including 74% of self-defined liberals. But what exactly can be done to prevent foreign-born terrorists from taking advantage of America's generous immigration laws? First, the immigration debate of the last decade has been almost totally irrelevant to the threat we now face. The problem is not, as the anti-immigration crowd had tried for years to convince us, Mexican and other Latin immigrants taking "American" jobs, abusing our welfare system, and overpopulating our cities. We've beefed up our patrols along our border with Mexico in recent years, but our border with Canada-where at least two of the terrorists are believed to have entered the U.S. legally-is pitifully porous. And we've totally ignored the problem of tracking non-citizens once they've entered the United States legally. Most of the terrorists who attacked on Sept. 11 entered the U.S. with valid temporary or student visas, just as millions of foreign visitors do each year. But once they passed immigration control at their port of entry, the terrorists could disappear, unmonitored, into American society. In 1996, Congress passed legislation requiring that all U.S. entries and exits be recorded, but the law was shelved last year. It's time to reactivate and enhance it. Congress should immediately enact legislation requiring all aliens in the U.S. to register with the government once a year and to notify the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) whenever they change their address. We used to require aliens to register at a U.S. post office each January, but abandoned the requirement in the 1980s. Coupled with a tracking system to monitor entries and exits from the U.S., such a system could provide law enforcement with an important tool in the fight against terrorism-but only if it is properly implemented and integrated. Other federal and state agencies should also be required to obtain information concerning aliens in the U.S. No commercial driver's license or pilot's license should be issued without proof of U.S. citizenship or a security check to ensure that non-citizens are in the country legally and not on any law enforcement watch lists. No doubt some will chafe at the suggestion that aliens should be treated differently from U.S. citizens. But living in the United States is a privilege, not a right for non-citizens. Law-abiding aliens have nothing to fear. Their safety-indeed, that of everyone who lives or travels in the U.S.-will be enhanced once these security measures are enacted.
