HOMOSEXUAL CONFERENCE TARGETS ELEMENTARY CHILDREN NEA President gives keynote address Condensed from an article by Allyson Smith, WorldNetDaily.com, 10/11/00 Members of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education network (website), GLSEN, discussed plans to campaign against the Boy Scouts (website) and to introduce positive discussions about homosexuality into elementary school classrooms-including kindergarten-during their annual conference Oct. 6-8 in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights. This year's conference theme, "Ending the Hate Beginning in School," highlighted GLSEN's contention that teaching pro-homosexual lessons to young schoolchildren is an appropriate way to combat "homophobia" and "hatred" directed at homosexuals. But critics like Peter La Barbera of the Americans for Truth Project, who led a pro-family coalition protesting the conference, said GLSEN's elementary school agenda "manipulates the minds of impressionable children." GLSEN chose the Windy City for its conference to celebrate the opening of its third regional office here. Organizers said around 800 people, including teenage students, some who received financial scholarships, attended the event. Scouts out, homosexual clubs in, GLSEN announced plans to pressure schools to lobby school districts to stop sponsoring the Boy Scouts due to its ban on homosexual scoutmasters. "The Boy Scouts can present in someone's homeroom, they can get the school lists of students, they can have posters in the hall.. It's a very unique access that most other clubs do not enjoy, and at the same time they are a discriminatory club," said GLSEN policy director M. K. Cullen. LaBarbera countered that homosexual student clubs advocated by GLSEN nationwide-called GSA's (Gay-Straight Alliances)--often receive much the same access. Recently, Newton North High School in the Boston suburb of Newton, MA celebrated "Bisexual Awareness Day." A large banner with the slogan "Celebrate Bisexual Awareness Day" was hanging over the main entrance of the school until parents got wind of it and complained to school authorities. "If you asked parents whose agenda-GLSEN's or the Boy Scouts-presents a real threat to schoolchildren, I think most would say that GLSEN does more harm than the Boy Scouts ever could," said La Barbera. At a workshop at the conference titled, "Appreciating a Broader Canvas: How Teachers Understand Gay and Lesbian Content Integration in Elementary Social Studies," participants were instructed on ways to incorporate pro-gay content into family studies for grades K-3 and into U.S. immigration history for grades 4-6. The K-3 lesson plan advised teachers to help students "recognize diverse family constellations" by encouraging discussion of individual family differences and similarities and by showing photographs from a book entitled "Celebrating Families," which includes "lesbian mothers/adopted daughters." In another session, the film, "That's Family!" was shown. The movie is the second by lesbian activists Debra Chasnoff and Helen Cohen, creators of the controversial film "It's Elementary," which showed instructors giving pro-homosexual classroom lessons to young children. According to a promotional flyer, "That's Family!" is an entertaining documentary for elementary school children, featuring kids from a wide variety of family structures, including gay and lesbian families. GLSEN and other homosexual groups are lobbying to get "That's Family!" shown in classrooms across the country. At another GLSEN workshop, attendees received a handout telling ways to include pro-homosexual content in geometry classes by using "known political symbols (a pink triangle, a yellow star of David, a political flag, the purple teletubbie) to study shapes. While the geometry lesson is the goal, history and political information surrounding the shape is introduced." Although the conference presenters talked about the importance of disseminating only "age-appropriate" material, all participants, including dozens of high school-aged kids, had the opportunity to receive a "Visitor's Companion" that advertised Chicago's homosexual "leather" bars, a sex club and a homosexual bath house.." During an all-day seminar on Friday called "LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Educators Empowerment," high school teacher Patricia Nicolari of GLSEN/Connecticut described ways in which educators can "come out" to students based on a five-stage continuum ranging from "In (the closet)" to "Out (of the closet)." Co-moderator Michael Fiorello discussed the importance of enlisting "straight allies" such as members of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays and religious leaders who defend homosexual teachers. Another seminar was "Responding to the Right Wing." Conference presenters and attendees repeatedly stressed the idea that "respect for others" must supersede private religious beliefs and that name-calling must be stopped. However, the prohibition on name-calling excluded such labels as "radical right," "religious right" and "right wing." National Education Association (NEA, website) President Robert Chase gave the keynote address at the conference. Chase insisted that he was there "out of concern for the children our members teach," and the NEA does not have a "radical pro-homosexual agenda," but rather a "radical civil rights agenda." He said, "It's not about promoting unsafe and abhorrent lifestyles, but protecting (against) abhorrent behaviors. It's not a matter of recruiting gay or lesbian teachers, but of retaining them. It's simply a matter of protecting all children and school employees. It is an education issue.." Editor's Note: Homosexual activists, apparently with the approval of the NEA, seek to indoctrinate our young children in the classroom to "tolerate" their unhealthy and immoral lifestyle. If you are a NEA member, write or email Robert Chase and express your opposition to his involvement in the conference (1201 16th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20036 or BobChase@nea.org. In addition, there are federal and state laws that protect you and your child. Find out if your school is planning on showing the films "It's Elementary" or "That's Family!" and ask to review them. Then seek like-minded parents to work with you to keep the film out of the school; or simply opt your child out of the class when the film is shown.
THE COOKIE CRUMBLES: THE GIRL SCOUTS GO PC Condensed from an article by Kathryn Jean Lopez, National Review, 10/23/00 Everyone knows about the Boy Scouts (website), now one of the most controversial groups in America. But what about the Girl Scouts? All sugar and spice and everything nice, plus annual cookie sales, right? Not quite. The Girl Scouts of America (website) have avoided the beleaguered status of the Boy Scouts only because the organization has surrendered to exactly the cultural forces the Boy Scouts are resisting. The Girl Scouts' leaders hope to make their youthful charges the shock troops of an ongoing feminist revolution. It's been a long slide for the Girl Scouts. First, they dropped "loyalty" from their oath in 1972 in favor of "I will do my best to be honest and fair." In 1975, a Catholic archdiocese cut off all support of the Girl Scouts because of their sex-ed program. In 1993, the Girl Scouts made "God" optional in the Girl Scout Promise: "On my honor, I will try: to serve God and my country, to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law." (The Boy Scouts, meanwhile, have been sued over keeping God in their oath.) Today, the Girl Scouts is arguably one of the most politically correct organizations in the country. Its executive director, Marsha Johnson Evans, has impeccable feminist credentials: She had a 29-year career in the Navy, during which she earned the title of rear admiral, only the second woman ever to do so. As head recruiter for the Navy, she was the mother of the 12-12-5 affirmative action policy, a mandate to make the Navy look more like America: 12% African-American, 12% Hispanic, and 5% Asian/Pacific. According to Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness (website), Evans "demanded quotas with full implementation when the liberal control of the Navy was at its peak. She is very much a feminist, and was promoted and thrived in the Clinton military." Evans' scouts march leftward on almost everything. The Girl Scout organization supports Title IX legislation-which mandates gender equity in sports-in both the nation's capital and in its own literature. The Girl Scout Constitution includes a ringing endorsement of affirmative action in "recruitment, hiring, training, and promoting." Girl Scouts and Girl Scout moms are anti-gun, and were represented in the anti-gun Million Mom March. "The core values remain the same, but throughout its history Girl Scouting has evolved to meet the needs and interests of the girls today," says Karen Solzak Rice, a spokesman for a California Girl Scout Council. Girl Scouts can now earn the "Ms. Fix-It" badge, the "Car Care" badge, and badges, which vary from council to council, (that) go way beyond selling cookies. There's the "Domestic Violence Awareness" badge, as well as badges for stress management, for "becoming a teen," and a "Girl Power!" badge sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (website). Girls can earn a "Decisions for Your Life" badge for participating in activities relating to teen pregnancy, including carrying a raw egg for a designated period of time. Victimization is central to the Girl Scout worldview. Citing a survey from the American Association of University Women (website) that has since been debunked, the Girl Scouts assures girls in its literature that teachers discriminate against them in the classroom, calling on boys more often. The new Girl Scout Research Institute has just released its inaugural study, "Girls Speak Out: Teens Before Their Time," focusing on the supposed crisis of girls. Dr. Whitney Roban, a clinical psychologist at the institute, advises parents: "You are hurting your daughter by trying to protect her. Sit down with your daughter and watch Dawson's Creek and the MTV awards. Talk about it. It will be very revealing." So why aren't the Girl Scouts being sued and protested for not allowing lesbian Scout leaders? Because they have them. The Girl Scouts does not have a "discrimination policy," as they like to put it-Girl Scout doors are open to all gay Scout leaders and girls. The organization itself is not shy about the issue. One resource book for Scouts informs its young readers: "Some girls have sexual attractions or desires for people of the same sex." Girl Scout policy forbids sex on Girl Scouts time. But the1997 book, "On My Honor: Lesbians Reflect on Their Scouting Experience," is filled with coming-of-age stories sparked by gay encounters in the Girl Scouts. Along with an essay entitled, "All I Really Need To Know About Being A Lesbian, I Learned at Girl Scout Camp," and various stories about "butch" counselors, is testimony to the prevalence of lesbians in Girl Scouting. Girl Scout staffers writing in the book claim that roughly one in three of the Girl Scouts' paid professional staff is lesbian. The eyes-and ire-of the world may well be on the wrong Scouts. There are currently 2.7 million Girl Scouts in the U.S. That's a lot of liberal feminists to look forward to. In a speech shortly after becoming executive director, the Girl Scouts' Marty Evans boasted, "We're not your mother's Girl Scout troop." No kidding.
The Millennium Summit and Its DECLARATION What Did 160 Heads of State Declare, and Will It Affect Americans? By Cathie Adams, president of Texas Eagle Forum There was a very important meeting at the United Nations in New York City in September. While the General Assembly usually meets annually, this year’s meeting was more important than usual because they agreed to a Millennium Declaration. Some writers said its global impact would be catastrophic, while others downplayed it as a hoax. The questions remain: what did the largest gathering of heads of state in the history of the world DECLARE? And what did the five permanent members of the UN Security Council say about the future of the UN? Will either affect Americans? The Millennium Declaration:
Regular review of this Declaration means that this entire list of goals is a MANDATE for the member States. At follow-up meetings, the UN will review how the nations are incrementally implementing global government. They call it global governance, but there is no difference. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan urged member nations to fund and implement the Millennium Summit agenda and to strengthen the UN. And the five permanent members of the UN Security Council responded to his call hearkening to the Marxist idea that poverty causes war and calling for strengthening of UN peacekeeping:
The 189 members of
the UN, including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council,
agreed to the Millennium Declaration. Indeed, they have a plan to
incrementally implement global government with the UN as the central
manager of every life and all property in every nation enforced by a
standing UN army. The 70-year Marxist experiment failed in the old
U.S.S.R. and Eastern Europe, but their philosophy is alive and well at the
UN. The Communists have done what they warned us they would: sell us the
rope to hang us. And they want Americans to pay the henchmen, a.k.a. UN
peacekeepers.
RU-486: HUMAN PESTICIDE In a major victory for the abortion movement, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA, website) approved RU-486, an early abortion pill, for U.S. use. "For those who choose to have an early termination of their pregnancy, this is a reasonable medical alternative," said FDA Commissioner Jane Henney. Pro-life groups disagreed. The FDA's move "will result in more abortions and new risks to women," said Laura Echevarria, of the National Right to Life Committee. "This method involves administration of two potent drugs, and frequently produces profuse bleeding, in order to kill a human embryo who is two to five weeks old." The NRTLC and other groups vow to continue to fight against RU-486. Pro-life Members of Congress, in particular Rep. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Sen. Tim Hutchinson (R-AR), plan to introduce legislation that would impose restrictions in the use of RU-486. "Never before has the FDA approved a drug intended to kill people," said Rep. Coburn. And Sen. Hutchinson said, "Fast-track timetables are supposed to be reserved for drugs that will combat life-threatening diseases like cancer or AIDS. In this case, the Administration rushed a drug through that will take lives instead of saving them." In Texas, Attorney General John Cornyn said the state abortion law on parental notification extends to doctors administering the pill. Meanwhile several major managed health care plans, including Aetna, United HealthCare, and Cigna, announced that they will cover the pill as a standard benefit. (WORLD, 10/14/00) In an unprecedented move, the FDA refused to disclose the name and location of the manufacturer, citing concerns about employee safety and security. The Wall Street Journal (website) (9/30/00) reports that "funding for the drug, which is being marketed by the private New York-based Danco Laboratories and the Population Council, includes money from foundations set up by billionaire financier Warren Buffet and hedge-fund czar George Soros, plus a $10 million loan from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation." And according to a story in The Dallas Morning News (website) (10/12/00), The New York Times (website) and The Wall Street Journal reported that Danco has contracted with a manufacturing plant in Communist China to produce RU-486, to be sold under the name Mifeprex. Several Chinese officials confirmed that Hua Lian Pharmaceutical Co. will produce the drug for the U.S. The company has been working for three years to upgrade its equipment and retrain its staff to meet international standards to export the drug with the help of the Rockefeller Foundation and the Concept Foundation. The Concept Foundation was founded by the World Health Organization and World Bank in 1987 to help factories in developing countries make medical products at low cost for Third World health agencies. Told of the Chinese factory's role, U.S. pro-life activists said they intend to question the safety and purity of Chinese pharmaceuticals and tie the drug to China's controversial one-child policy and human-rights record. "Of the estimated 10 million abortions performed annually in China, about half are carried out with RU-486," said Gao Ersheng, director of Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research.
