Book Review of Mark Levin's “LIBERTY & TYRANNY”

Cathie has a new PowerPoint presentation book review of Mark Levin's, “Liberty & Tyranny.” In it Levin gives a conservative remedy to the socialist/Statist agenda of the Obama administration and his willing Democrat cohorts in Congress. To schedule “Liberty & Tyranny,” or other presentations on timely topics (global warming, radical Islam and Republican politics, etc.), please call our office at 972-250-0734.

August Town Hall Meetings

E-mail your Senators and Representative, asking for a schedule of their Townhall meeting during the month of August. Once you get the information, get a carload of friends and attend the Townhall meeting. If your Senators or Representative is not holding Townhall meeting, ask why not. (We have been told that many of those favoring ObamaCare aren't holding meetings because they don't want to answer questions about ObamaCare.) Then ask for an appointment at his or her district office nearest you. We, the people, can and MUST stop the massive Health Care Reform and Cap and Trade / Tax bills up for a vote after the August recess. NOW is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country!

Perry Continues TO stress State's Rights CONCERNING Healthcare

In his prime-time televised press conference designed to sell his massive health care overhaul [SOCIALIZED MEDICINE] to the American People, President Barack Obama did little more than reinforce the idea that his plan is overly expensive and burdensome on state governments, employers, and citizens in general. As a result, Governor Rick Perry has expressed his desire to put importance back into the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, using the debate on health care as a catalyst. The amendment reads, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." To Gov. Perry, health care is a power not granted to the United States. He believes Texas government knows much better what is good for Texas, not the federal government. Gov. Perry is absolutely right. President Obama's health care plan would cost the state of Texas billions, and put too high burdens on employers, especially small businesses.

Sen. Hutchison Will Resign in the Fall

In a July 29 radio interview with talk show host Mark Davis, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said she would give up her Senate seat in October or November to run for Texas Governor in the March 2010 primary. That would set off the special election for May 2010, unless Gov. Rick Perry declared an emergency and set it for an earlier date. In the interview, Sen. Hutchison said, “…I am trying to determine when is the time when I have done everything I can do to stop this healthcare takeover, cap and trade which is the next thing coming down that I think is going to be so bad for Texas. I am trying to finish those things in a responsible way and then I am coming home to try to give leadership to Texas.”

Note: Many are questioning why Sen. Hutchison would give up her high-ranking Senate seat to run for Texas Governor when every Republican vote is needed to protest against the radical agenda of the Obama administration. While Gov. Perry will appoint a Republican to take her seat until the special election, there is always the possibility that a Democrat could win in May, giving the Democrats even more power in the U.S. Senate.

100 Democrats Sign Onto Paul's Federal Reserve Bill

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) has not only 100% of the House GOP Members as co-sponsors to his Federal Reserve Transparency Act, but 100 Democrats have signed on as well. The legislation calls for a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve by the Government Accountability Office, reported to Congress by the end of 2010. “I am pleased that so many of my colleagues are willing to stand up for transparency and accountability in government by co-sponsoring this bill,” stated Rep. Paul. HR1 1207 has a total of 277 co-sponsors and as been referred to the House Financial Services Committee.

Gail Lowe Named SBOE Chairman

Gov. Perry has selected Gail Lowe to be the next chair of the State Board of Education (SBOE), replacing former chairman Don McLeroy, who failed to be confirmed by the Texas Senate primarily because of his religious views on creationism. Mrs. Lowe, of Lampasas, Texas, is one of the more conservative SBOE members, and was first elected to the SBOE in 2002.  “Our state and our schoolchildren will benefit greatly from Mrs. Lowe’s service, care, and commitment as the new State Board of Education Chair,” said Jonathan Saenz, legislative director at Free Market Foundation. “We hope that the usual critics will rise above their religious discrimination of the past and allow Mrs. Lowe to focus on the important education issues of our state.”

Friendswood Taxpayers fight City Hall and Win!

A Travis County District Judge ruled recently against the Friendswood mayor and city council, denying them the ability to issue certificates of obligation without voter approval. The ruling is thanks to five citizens who fought City Hall to support their city charter and is a huge victory for Texas taxpayers, as this case has ramifications across the state. The Friendswood Five challenged City Hall, endured multiple attempts to have their voices silenced and set an example for oppressed taxpayers everywhere. The judge in this case agreed that citizens possess an inherent right established in the Texas Constitution for local voters to have the ability to limit their local governments above what state law. Congrats and thanks to The Friendswood Five: Janis Lowe, Mel Austin, Deborah Winters Chaney, Leslie Rocque and Kathy Rogers.
