Texas
Eagle Forum President Cathie Adams commends Governor Perry’s
proposal for school funding in Texas WITHOUT recommending
an INCOME TAX. “It is our hope that Lt. Gov. Dewhurst
and Speaker Craddick will follow the lead of our Governor
and eliminate the House and Senate calls for an INCOME TAX,”
said Mrs. Adams.
Throughout
the regular legislative session, Texas Eagle Forum maintained
opposition to the Texas House proposal for a “payroll
tax” and the Texas Senate proposal for a “wage
tax.” The bottom line is: both are INCOME TAXES.
We also
commend Governor Perry’s proposal to pay for the health
textbooks that are sitting on loading docks waiting for
the promised payment. We have maintained our support for
the elected State Board of Education approved health textbooks.
Mrs. Adams remarked, “Texas parents and taxpayers
have spoken loud and clear through our elected State Board
of Education that we want to retain our oversight of textbooks.
We want our school children to be taught moral health consistent
with what we teach our children at home and that is best
accomplished when parents and school board members work
together. We do NOT want to relinquish that responsibility
to the whims of publishers and bureaucrats as would surely
happen if textbooks are replaced by expensive laptop computers.”
Finally,
we commend Governor Perry’s proposal for capping Robin
Hood’s recapture at 45% of a school district’s
tax revenue with full understanding that ALL taxes are Robin
Hood schemes that take from one and give to another.
