VETO IT!!!
Friends,
A school-based clinic bill made it through the legislature and is
awaiting Gov. Bush's signature. While a couple of "guard rails" were
amended to it (i.e. it requires parental consent for each treatment
and there's a hurdle for establishing new clinics) the bill is still
BAD.
Please call Gov. Bush and ask him to VETO HB 2202 because the schools
are already burdened with enough--they should be responsible for
educating children, not medicating them.
The federal education program, Goals 2000, has a health component that
can be implemented with these school-based clinics. And this bill will
allow school districts to use Medicaid funds. These provisions are
problematic!
